This is my third flat of strawberries this season. husband just keeps bringing them home. They are too pretty to pass by. Then my boss brought everyone a few pints this weekend from the strawberry festival.
I've had strawberry smoothies for breakfast, made strawberry parfaits with vanilla yogurt, strawberries over ice cream, strawberries and milk, strawberries snuck into my oatmeal and eating way too much of this:
Chocolate covered strawberries. My neighbors have been having a lot of it too since I've been bringing plate fulls over to share. (they reciprocate in brownies... we've got a good thing going) Gosh, it is so simple, but so good. We eat them when the chocolate is still warm. Cant even wait long enough for the little things to set.
Of course, I've frozen some, for when we fall on hard strawberry time.
I even broke out the Aunt Mary's old recipe, and attempted to make a pie.
Attempt was a failure. It involved cooking 7-up and sugar with corn starch until thick. This is not the finished product. Turns out, I don't know what thick means. But, we still ate it. Because, really? How can you mess up the fresh strawberries sitting in 7-up with whip cream on top?
As soon as I come around from my sugar coma, I've got a few more strawberry tricks up my sleeve.
And, of course, I'll invite Paula in on the action. She always has something of benefit to say on the subject, and usually it involves butter and sugar.
Its the most wonderful time of the year.....
