I've made it every Easter for at least 10 years. Bring to my sister in law's house. My nieces and nephews are CRAZY about this. They don't even request it anymore. Just say, "Aunt Bobbie.... you know what to bring." which means, bring broccoli salad and strawberry shortcake.
I think I'll make some more this weekend.
Quick!! Before the strawberries go away. Grab a trifle bowl.
Grab an angel food cake. Or two. You can make it yourself, but its $1.50 at Wal-Mart. I do a little cost benefit/time space continuum analysis. I've got laundry to do. The Wal-Mart $1.50 angel food cake wins. Plus it is delicious.
Tear the cake into big pieces. I mean big pieces. If there too small, they just disintegrate. Everyone likes big pieces.
Mix one box of Jello strawberry into one cup boiling water.
Let it cool a little then mix it with one package of thawed strawberries in juice.
Add one pint of chopped real strawberries. Pour over the angel food cake pieces and top with whole container of Cool Whip. Refrigerate.

My kinda recipe, Bobbie! LOL Simple, quick & easy...that's me!
I'm adding the angel food cake & the frozen strawberries to my Wally World run. Already got the fresh stuff.
You know, if I make this with sugar free angel food cake & with sugar free JellO and the lite Cool Whip, this could fit into a diabetic's diet nicely. (DH & sister)
Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to try it.
fondly,
Rett
