How God Calls Leaders (my sermon notes from this morning)

1. He calls them. 1 Samuel 16:1: He doesn't take out a help wanted ad and see who applies. He knows who He wants and He arranges events to call them. There are no accidents. He is behind the scenes working in everything.

2. God's call is specific 1 Samuel 16:11-13. God sent Samuel to a specific town, to a specific family, to a specific son. God was not looking for just anyone to do this job. When God undertakes a project, he already has someone in mind to lead it.

3. God's choice may not be our choice 1 Samuel 16: 6-11. God is not impressed with what we are impressed with. God is more concerned about with the condition of the heart. When he looks at you, who does he see?

Why David? He had the character God was looking for
1. He was ready when God called
2. He was faithful to his job (out in the field with the sheep when all his family was at a party)
3. He was responsible in the job he already had (Shepard)
