Christmas recap 2010

It was relaxing and uneventful and I somehow escaped doing any work on my part and I really liked it that way.

I didn't even try to make a Christmas Eve meal. We had Domino's Pizza before the Christmas Eve candlelight service. Which I think may be our newest family tradition. Then sat in the parking lot of Walgreen's across the street from a light show- watching the house lights synchronized to music.

Big (exhausting) family Christmas dinner the weekend before meant only a few people at my house on Christmas Day, which meant me staying in sweat pants with no makeup and letting the messy house just sit while I visited, chatted, sipped diet coke, fielded phone calls and then hunkered down with an electric blanket and read two Mary Kay books (I know... I might be a little obsessed).

Turkeys were fried (but not by me),  we had rolls, gravy, dressing and Lima beans, (all brought over by my mother in law) and the sweet potato casserole was supplied by my neighbor coming to my door early and handed me the pan as I handed her a poinsettia.

This only left me to make broccoli casserole and desserts.

I had a big production planned  in the sweet department of  grown up brownies, a prune cake (one of Pioneer Woman's top 5 recipes!!), and brown sugar cookies, but I literally ran out of flour and sugar on Christmas Eve and could only make one.... I wish I could take credit for the genius plan of running out of flour so I literally can't bake, but really, it was an accident.  An accident that resulted in me escaping even more work. I did let the husband choose..... we only had the grownup brownies.

been waiting for your Christmas day post. And, I see you had it all under control. That made for a great Christmas Day for you. It couldn't have been planned any better. That Mary Kay book on people management must work real well. (heehee)

So glad to meet you here! I totally agree with the "not even try to make Christmas Eve Dinner".... we had snacky stuff before going to church. Sometimes that's the best idea to keep things simple! Happy New Year!!

I had a similar experience for Christmas. We had a HUGE family dinner the Sunday before Christmas, so on Christmas day, I was much more low key and actually ended up eating at my SIL's house. It was very relaxing after all the effort I put into the family dinner.

I hope you have a wonderful New Years Eve.
